CHARCOAL’S GOURMET BURGER BAR IS CHANGING LOCATIONS. Charcoal's makes its home in a handsome two-story building at the corner of Magazine Street and Jackson Avenue. Sit downstairs at a counter or go for full table service upstairs. Choose a pre-designed burger or build your own. There's just one catch: a basic burger is $9, and while some straightforward toppings are free (mayonnaise), others will cost you ("spicy" mayonnaise is 25 cents extra; caramelized onions, add $1.50; a single fried onion ring on your burger is another dollar). Still, the burgers are tasty and the bread is baked in-house. Unlike at some burger joints, you can get a cocktail here, and there’s a respectable list of wines by the glass. A decent bread pudding and a nice selection of salads and appetizers are available, too.
