THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Charley G's Seafood Grill Restaurant Review:
The New Orleans suburbs are hardly fertile ground for great south Louisiana cooking. Charley Gs, on the second level of a high-rise office building, at least cracks the mold. Its zesty seasoned zydeco shrimp alone is worth the drive across the city limits. Running nearly neck-and-neck with that are a duck and andouille gumbo, as earthy in flavor as in its dark-brown color; exemplary crab cakes; a belt-busting mixed grill of andouille, quail, pork and duck; and grilled fish in a flout jazzed up with rock shrimp. Desserts are a cut below the rest of the repertoire. The split-level environment is medium-brow contemporary, defined by parchment-textured lighting fixtures, earth-toned carpets and walls, an open kitchen and a wraparound bar of burnished wood. Service is well-organized and wines are above average in selectivity.
