Chief's Creole Cafe Restaurant Review:
Set in a century-old but now renovated corner grocery store, the café feels like home the instant you walk in. The atmosphere is friendly and unhurried. Weather permitting, outdoor dining is a fine option, as an expansive courtyard is draped with strings of lights and there’s a mood-setting fountain. The menu offers many family recipes, such as soft cheese and grits with pan-seared shrimp, finished with a scoop of cheese sauce, and a generally not-too-spicy gumbo. Another popular choice is Creole chicken wings, fried and then topped with a spicy sauce. Consider the onion rings as an appetizer or a side. Dessert can include a pineapple upside-down cake, with maraschino cherries. There is no liquor license, so beverages run to sweet tea or house-made punch.
