Cyrano's Restaurant Review:
Cyrano’s chef-owner Carolyn Downs is well known for her ability to sate (or should that be “stoke”?) our sugar cravings. Keep dessert in mind when ordering the light portions of sandwiches and salads or the small-plate appetizers. On Saturdays, the special is barbecue straight from the owners’ grill, Sugarfire. This savory fare, tasty as it is, is a mere opening act for dessert. Most renowned is the Cleopatra, a concoction of ice cream, fruit, rum sauce and whipped cream so over-the-top that to call it a sundae doesn’t seem fair. Pastries also are first-rate, from the pumpkin gooey butter cake (a seasonal riff on a local favorite) to the caramel-brioche bread pudding, but it’s the sharable flambés that burn most brightly in customers’ memories. With 48 hours’ notice you can take home goodies like potato chip shortbread cookies, chocolate-covered bacon or a chocolate layer cake.
