The Dakota is one of the Twin Cities best places to catch national blues and jazz acts as they breeze through town. It's far from the old smoky joint you might expect, it's cool and sleek with the perfect amount, or lack, of lighting and the patio is divine in summer. The food that accompanies an evening of jazz is just as exhilarating. The Dakota tries to stay true to the Midwestern region with an emphasis on walleye, wild rice, pork and the like, but they definitely add their own twists. Try the signature brie and apple soup for a smart change of pace, or go for the walleye cheeks covered in a kicky pepper-garlic sauce. There are the traditional offerings of pastas, salads, and sandwiches to cover all bases or you can go for the prix-fixe deal for $19.95. The wine list is long, but nothing stands out as a great find. Servers are well trained to be unobtrusive, as they know the true show is on the stage.
