THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Destinee Restaurant Review:

The posh regulars who frequent Destinée are proprietary about their find and will downplay their affection for the restaurant in an effort to keep outsiders out. Don’t be deterred, however, from trying this sophisticated spot as a meal here is one of the most authentic French fine dining experiences to be had in the big city. The family of chef/co-owner Jean-Yves Schillinger owned an acclaimed restaurant in France which, tragically, burnt down killing his father. He has rebuilt his life in New York, offering creative Gallic fare that amazes and comforts at the same time. Try a classic Provençal tart of vegetables or the more exotic tuna tartare with a punch of spicy wasabi. Duck foie gras dressed like a peach is also a good way to begin. Entrées are fairly classic, but with enough creativity to make them compelling---how about seafood lasagna with shellfish emulsion and chicken broth or a braised veal chop that is perfumed with hay? A huge crème brûlée has lime and honey accents, and Destinée’s potential to surprise is evident in the kugelhopf with a roulade of dry fruit, beer sorbet and saffron sauce.
