It’s been in the Thousand Oaks Inn forever, serving up breakfast to the community year after year. The buttermilk hotcakes are legendary, and generations of locals bring their offspring here to continue the custom of packing them away on the weekends. The pie is also notable, so if you haven’t indulged yet, be sure to do so. The setting of this old-fashioned coffee shop is so no-nonsense it’s almost depressing. It could definitely do with a facelift like the Farmers Market location got. But until it gets one, the low, U-shaped counter near the entrance is a good height for kids who want to belly up to a pint-size bar and slam down a milkshake. Besides those pedigreed pancakes and other breakfast dishes, you can get hot open-face sandwiches, burgers, fish ‘n’ chips, braised short ribs, plus salmon with lemon and dill. Early birds can take advantage of the "beat-the-clock" menu every day from 4 p.m-6 p.m., which lists five meal choices priced between $4 and $6, depending on the time you order it.
