Dumpling Kingdom Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: First there was Dumpling Café in Chinatown, then grew Dumpling Palace near Berklee College of Music. Now, Allston has their Chinese- and Taiwanese-style sibling, Dumpling Kingdom. The dining room has a tankful of fresh lobster and crab.
Food: For starters, try the oyster or shrimp rice-flour omelet/pancake with a faro and ketchup gravy. Minced beef and parsley soup is clean and fresh-tasting, while the rich braised spicy beef soup comes with a choice of noodle styles. Order a round of steamed and fried dumplings and buns, including the veggie dumplings filled with bright minced greens, not just the usual cabbage; mini juicy buns with pork (bite carefully, they’re filled with soup); and roasted buns with caramelized bottoms, stuffed with savory duck confit. Round out the meal with sides of black mushrooms over bok choy and some white rice. End the meal sweetly with strawberry boba tea. Bonus: free parking in the back.
