El Mariachi Restaurant Review:

A longtime Rockville destination, this corner eatery once upon a time served what we feel was much more authentic Mexican food. Today it rolls out dishes that would work well on a Central American or Tex-Mex menu, including chicken tamales to start (soft as custard and completely bland), tostones (fried green plantains), and a sopa de Lima Yucateca. The rest of the menu is replete with nachos, burritos, fajitas and assorted combo platters that are the mainstay of such restaurants everywhere. What we liked best was the kitchen's version of the famed tres leches cake, a pastry that, when done right, is more custard than cake---and this one is a winner! Go here, and make sure you order at least three. It's the best thing on the menu.
