El Serape Restaurant Review:

One of the true measures of a good Mexican restaurant is its soup. If it can get a delicious caldo out, then chances are everything else will be good. El Serape makes fantastic soups---big, flavorful, bracing concoctions that are meals in themselves. The caldo de rez, a classic meat soup, is wonderful here, loaded with vegetables in a deep, beefy broth. But the kitchen also makes wonderful chicken soup, and on weekends menudo, a soul-stirring marriage of hominy and beef tripe. It gets better. The house-made salsas (a fiery red and a vivid tomatillo) are so good, you can't stop eating them with fresh-from-the-fryer tortilla chips. Guacamole is the real thing here, chunky and loaded with onion and cilantro. Our favorite dishes include enchiladas with smoky mole sauce, pork carnitas tacos made with warm soft corn tortillas, chicken in mole, and crispy taquitos drizzled with a tasty green sauce and sprinkled with Mexican cheese. El Serape is delicious, charming and utterly authentic, the real thing.
