THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Excelsior Restaurant Review:

THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED Excelsior captures the mod-minimal feel of the Info Age. Adam Tihany designed the space, adult in chocolate brown banquettes, post-sunset oranges and siennas, yet with retro touches in furniture design and lavish Italian glassware and fixtures; a two-story glass tower houses the 600-label wine collection. Since Lydia Shire's departure, Eric Brennan, formerly of The Harvest, has been running the kitchen, and it shows in a more restrained, less exuberant menu, with a narrower but sharper geographical focus. Take the addition of a raw bar selection, where naked shellfish abuts tartares and ceviches; or a penchant for modern homages to classics---from a Caesar that incorporates duck prosciutto and green peppercorns to the lobster schnitzel that has become his signature. Still, Shireisms remain on the funky bar menu, where the lobster pizza still reigns supreme.
