Fanny Bay Oyster Bar --- longtime supplier of oysters and other shellfish to many local eateries --- is situated smack dab where downtown, Yaletown and the Stadium District converge. It's a prime destination for an ever-changing array of Ocean Wise-certified oysters plus mussels, clams, scallops, shrimp, prawns, crab, lobster, ling cod, salmon and more. Pull up a stool at one of the high-top tables or counter seat up close to always-busy oyster shuckers. Sip a smooth cocktail (we recommend the rye-distilled vodka based Black Pearl), a local craft beer or wine from the fish-friendly list, perhaps the sparkling Steller's Jay Brut from B.C., before tucking into a plate of fresh-shucked oysters from the dozen or so varieties on hand. Follow with seafood chowder, fried oysters, sashimi-style geoduck or tasty scallops and pork belly. Tempting mains include grilled salmon, bouillabaisse, oyster po' boys, and whole lobster or crab. Not in a seafood mood? The oyster mushroom pasta sings, and there's a burger and beef tenderloin. Brunch delivers smoked salmon, crab and classic bennies, but for something decidedly different, step out with Kentucky fried oysters and waffles paired with chili butter and maple syrup.
