When you want dependable early-morning fare, First Watch fits the bill. Everyone feels right at home in this family-friendly restaurant with no-nonsense service, strong coffee and some of the best pancakes in town. It's packed at breakfast, but as the morning pushes toward lunchtime, the second crowd moves in for brunch and lunch. Ample omelets, like the killer Cajun with spicy chicken, jack cheese and mushrooms, are offered, as well as “crêpeggs,” a First Watch creation with a sweet crêpe, fluffy eggs and inventive fillings. If you're watching calories, the Siesta Key Cocktail is a fine option, a parfait of granola, low-fat yogurt, fruit and nuts. At lunchtime you'll see a few takers for the generous sandwiches and salads, but who says you can't have a giant pancake at high noon?
