THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Frog & the Peach Restaurant Review:
Dont let the goofy name fool you. The Frog & the Peach is serious stuff indeed. One of the best new restaurants to open in the state in the past couple of years, the F&P is as charming as it is delicious. A recent renovation has brought the dining rooms up to a sophistication level to match the food. Chef Steve Mikos eclectic menu takes an irresistible global spin, drawing on Asian, Italian, African and Southwestern flavors. The thankfully brief menu showcases only winners. Of the starters, were fans of the nori-wrapped salmon---crispy fried cylinders of sushi-grade fish perfectly pink and rare inside. The fried calamari is unlike any other version served, with the squid ringlets tossed in a salad of radicchio, tangerines and shaved melon in a citrus aioli. Crab and gulf shrimp cakes come on a bed of orzo salad. For an entrée you cant go wrong with the teriyaki-grilled yellowfin tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes. We also like the Moroccan-glazed pork chop with parsnip whipped potatoes, and the spice-encrusted rack of lamb with creamy polenta and apple confit. One of the more interesting new items on the menu is the shredded duck and ancho chile enchilada. We liked F&P plenty when it was BYOB. With the makeover, however, came a new bar and a wine list. But we like the changes and the fabulous new energy in the kitchen. This frog is a peach.
