Gale's Restaurant Restaurant Review:
With its casual table settings and open kitchen separated from the dining room by a marble-clad counter (upon which a massive bust of Michelangelo's David seems to be supervising the cooking), this appealing restaurant suggests Mediterranean rusticity, but with a few elegant touches. Another dining area in the rear is quieter and offers more elbow room, which can be important since this place is a jam-packed neighborhood favorite. Regulars tuck into hearty soups, beef carpaccio and roasted beet salad, before moving on to portobello ravioli in a creamy wild mushroom sauce or rosemary lamb chops. Thin-crusted pizzas, particularly the margherita and Bianca, are first-rate. We also recommend the herb-roasted free-range chicken and the fresh salmon sauté served with garlic yogurt aïoli. Hands-on owner Gale Kohl and family keep things running smoothly.
