A small but loyal cadre of locals duck into this quiet neighborhood café to pass their mornings chatting up the friendly owner, Janette, as she turns out a succession of breakfast sandwiches, pastries and coffee. The trappings are modest and comfortably dated, with worn wooden tables and wall art provided by the café’s patrons. The handful of iron dining sets scattered about the namesake garden draws visitors outside when the neighborhood fog breaks, but the grassy slopes of Lincoln Park up the street offer better views. Midday visitors are rewarded with a solid lineup of sandwiches, headlined by the Garden House Sub and Veggie Delight, both of which feature loads of fresh vegetables. The drink case holds the usual suspects of juices and sodas; baked goods appear mid-afternoon to carry the remote work crowd through to close. Bring cash.
