Since 1948, when it opened on the dark and lonely west edge of town, Gene's has been a favorite of loyal locals as well as Speedway stars and their support teams. At race time, the place fills with famous drivers and jackets emblazoned with familiar logos. Aged, butter-tender beef is cooked precisely to order, and there is also fresh seafood, but the menu is basic, beefeater fare. Dedicated carnivores come here for steak or fish, a salad and baked potato, accompanied by a memorable wine.
