THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Gingham Restaurant Review:

Chef Brian Malarkey has added a little culinary punch to the sleepy town of La Mesa. In keeping with his cowboy-inspired cuisine that favors meats, hefty portions and various barbecue styles, Gingham is about hearty, full-flavored food. Dinnertime dishes range from brisket with “Momma’s Dry Rub” and hot link, to pork shoulder accented with “Julian Cider” and paired with fried kale. Earlier in the day, walk-up ordering and a chalkboard-type menu rule, with salads, sausages and options like a tri tip melt with Gruyère, jalapeño jam and mushroom tempting lunch guests. The Pick & Rocks mixologists continue to turn their creative wheels, devising original drinks with clever infusions --- consider the “Peña Colada” blended with pisco, coconut, banana and Hefeweizen. California wines, local craft beers and a number of whiskeys chosen to complement the fare are available, too. Designed by Blue Motif, the whimsical space, a one-time Ford showroom, has high-top tables, couches for lounging and a back patio with a fire pit, each creating a unique ambience.
