One of the first major chili houses in the area, Hard Times still excels at what it does best: making power-packed chili in three styles---Texas, Cincinnati and vegetarian. In each category there are more choices to for you to make: with spaghetti, with beans, with cheese and/or with onions. Our favorite is the tried-and-true Texas chili with coarse-ground meat, served with beans and topped with cheese and onions. Non-chili dishes include sandwiches and salads, but why bother? Responding to America's love for the chili bowl, each café sells pints, quarts and gallons of chili to-go, plus its sweet cornbread. You can also find Hard Times T-shirts, hot sauces and spice mixes.
