Iron Gate Restaurant Review

: The iconic Iron Gate Inn may have clanked its iron gates shut some years ago, but an enterprising restaurant group and chef opened it up for business again, calling it simply Iron Gate. Picturesque in an old-world sort of way with its vine-covered outdoors courtyard and elegant Italianate interiors, Iron Gate is a go-to dining destination just as much for ambience as for its menus. These are skillfully crafted by executive chef Anthony Chittum, who made a name for himself when cheffing at Vermilion in Alexandria. Today, Chittum, with his devotion to locally sourced goods, presents such dishes as a lunchtime house burger with burrata, a brunch plate of baked hen eggs with beef and pork meatballs, and a tasting menu that includes Maine lobster raviolo and Berkshire pork belly. Of all the unexpected desserts, the crispy Greek yeast donuts in an orange blossom syrup is striking yet totally low-key. Pair your food with wine chosen from an extensive list. Patrons can opt to dine at the bar as well, making wine choices very accessible.
