Island Inn Restaurant Review:
There's a sense of Old Florida and the Old South intermingled here. This in-house restaurant has a rich history of being one of those places the locals reluctantly have to share with tourists. It offers a full breakfast for those who want to get an early start on shell-collecting while the evening meal is often a surprise, with changes nightly. Each meal is served amid a candlelit setting with fresh flowers at each table. Appetizers can include mushroom caps baked with sausage stuffing and mozzarella cheese or baked quiche with fresh asparagus and sun-dried tomatoes. Entrées might include broiled lamb shish kabobs over wild rice or baked breast of duck topped with raisin-pecan sauce. You'll usually find a mushroom-covered grilled Delmonico steak on the menu as well as poached snapper served with a tomato and caper cream sauce. Dessert choices almost always include Key lime pie.
