For those devoted to dining in Manhattan, the outer-borough restaurant question is this: is it worth the trip? Island, a subtly Greek-inspired restaurant between Astoria and Long Island City, is a warehouse-cum-restaurant with Santorini-like white plastered walls and a candlelit ambience. The menu is loaded with intrigue, and fortunately, delivers on the palate as much as the eye. The goat cheese gnocchi is like nothing you would find in Italy---it comes topped with a hunk of juicy pulled pork. Lamb lollipops, tender New Zealand lamb chops, are nicely paired with mint-coriander chutney. The taste of the branzino filet amplified with the addition of lobster jus and lobster risotto strikes a nice balance between creamy and tangy (thanks to the carrot-ginger infusion). Is Island worth the trek? Yes.
