: The Neely family is a Memphis ’cue dynasty, and Jim Neely is its patriarch. His no-frills South Memphis diner looks just like you’d expect from a barbecue joint, with its vinyl tablecloths under glass and framed family photos on the wall. The atmosphere is laid back and casual, and the variety of smoked meats on the menu is daunting: pork ribs, beef ribs, and chopped or sliced pork. Beyond those offerings you'll find deli-trimmed beef, chicken, turkey, beef links, bologna and more. Barbecue spaghetti, a one-pot meal, is a Memphis original. Desserts include Mama Neely’s famous Sock-It-To-Me Cake, a golden cake filled with candied pecans and topped with a sweet sugar glaze. The restaurant does serve beer and wine, but selections are minimal. Also located at Memphis International Airport and at 150 W. Stateline Rd., Southhaven, Miss, 662-393-5699. |
