Jim Neely's Interstate Barbecue Restaurant Review

: Before there were Food Network stars Pat and Gina Neely, there was Uncle Jim Neely. Not only did he teach his nephew Pat the secrets of slow-roasting ribs and pulled pork, the leader of Memphis’ barbecue dynasty did the city a solid favor by offering his tender ribs to the public at his South Memphis diner. The décor is no-frills; the atmosphere laidback and casual; and the variety of smoked meats on the menu is daunting: pork ribs, beef ribs, chopped or sliced pork or deli-trimmed beef, chicken, turkey, beef links, bologna and more. Barbecue spaghetti is a Memphis original. Desserts include Mama Neely’s famous “Sock-It-To-Me Cake,” a golden cake filled with candied pecans and topped with a sweet sugar glaze. The restaurant does serve beer and wine, but selections are minimal. Also located at 150 W. Stateline Rd., Southhaven, Miss, 662-383-5699.
