THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED joe d's on 39th Restaurant Review:
Charismatic restaurateur Joe DiGiovanni opened a second place in 2002, taking over the former Café Allegro space. He and partners Jack Hanrahan and Vicki Robertson created a moderately-priced, compelling neighborhood place where folks become regulars in no time. The easygoing good food matches the tempo of the space. Prince Edward Island mussels swim in an elixir of garlic, cream and white wine. Salads, like the panzanella, are punctuated by robust flavors. Grilled filet mignon with garlic-sautéed spinach, and succulent osso buco with mashed potatoes are highlights of the meaty entrée selections. The four-page wine list abounds with good values and quirky selections, like a Jade Mountain La Provencale and the Eberle Cabernet.
