This famous Plaza barbecue place draws in the crowds, surely in no small measure because of the name recognition. Just about any grocery store sells K.C. Masterpiece sauces. Founder Rich Davis stepped back into the corporate office after several years of retirement. With his daughter's help, Davis has worked to put K.C. Masterpiece's reputation back in order. He put the quality back in his menu and added some new dishes to rekindle interest. This is a big, friendly place, where kids are welcome and dining choices are myriad. The onion straws are rightly famous; the Caesar salad with grilled salmon big enough to be a meal. For typical K.C. barbecue, try the brisket sandwich, the ribs, ribs, ribs platter and the Carolina pork. The barbecue beans and the cole slaw are worth the calories. If you've got room for dessert, try the oversized apple dumplings à la mode or the chocolate peanut butter pie. The bottom line, if you're on the Plaza and hankering for Kansas City barbecue, head to K.C. Masterpiece.
