La Carreta Restaurant Review:
La Carreta is the best-known Cuban eatery in Miami. The original location opened in 1976 in Little Havana, and it has expanded over the years. Some outposts have cafeteria-style counters with hot food like the one in the Miami airport where arrivals are greeted with the aroma of strong coffee; others boast more formal spaces with a larger menu. Expect to find black bean soup, fufu con masitas (mashed plantain with fried pork chunks), and ropa vieja (“old clothes”), a type of Creole shredded beef stew. The press-heated Cuban sandwich is a classic with ham, roast pork, Swiss, mustard and pickles, best washed down with a café con leche followed by coconut flan.
