THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED La Suite Restaurant Review:
Proprietor Jocelyn Bulow has been busy building up a repertoire of small plate eateries (Chez Papa, Baraka) until now. La Suite serves up hearty main courses of Provençal-inspired dishes. The handsome restaurant (that once temporarily housed Slanted Door) is done up in dark wood that anchors the sparkle from the pressed tin ceiling, Art Deco chandeliers and a wide view of the Bay Bridge lit up at night. The menu features brasserie dishes from the south of France. A large plats de mer arrives loaded with oysters, clams, mussels, shrimp, sea urchin, crab and lobster. A rarely seen roasted bone marrow starter warms the soul on a cold San Francisco night. Grilled calamari, from the wood oven, is paired with cayenne-tomato coulis and fried basil. Bouillabaisse arrives with a thick tomato broth laden with shellfish, seafood and the traditional rouille croûtons. Ahi tuna, roasted whole fish, rack of lamb, filet mignon and a number of tasty pizzas all share space in the wood-burning oven. At the very least, take a look at the dessert list which includes honey-drizzled madeleine cookies, a trio of petits pots de crème and tarte Tatin. A professional waitstaff knows that it is important to be friendly, knowledgeable and brief.
