To enter Ken Oringer’s La Verdad is to forgo every last shred of skepticism about his Midas touch as one of the best chefs in Boston. From New French fare and sashimi to tapas and a steakhouse, he’s conquered every cuisine he’s attempted --- and “comida Mexicana” is no exception. Granted, context is key: the moody cantina --- crimson-walled, lined with tequilas and dotted with Day of the Dead figurines --- is all of a half-block from Fenway Park, with a built-in fan base (which it shares with the Sox, of course). But it’s got the content to pack ’em in off-season too. Tacos take on many different forms, including carne asada and chorizo and pescado. Main dishes feature traditional finds like chicken enchiladas and chile relleno burritos, but we come here for the braised pork belly and side of crispy plantain chips. Tortas, meanwhile, are the much-improved Manwiches of the twenty-first century and the Mexican flatbreads are worth ordering, too, topped with refried beans and cotija cheese.
