THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Leon's on the West Side Restaurant Review:
Leons on the West Side is a very Providence restaurant in that it melds urban chic with neighborhood comfort as if it just made sense. It accomplishes much of this through its look---think diner gone dapper. Booths and such. But also locally-sourced paintings and hardwood floors, and a mixed-grill crowd that spans the ages. Food-wise, things are more downscale than youd imagine. The menu is, more or less, a homey reconciliation of Italian-American and Mediterranean influences with a few cheeky additions. Salads are of the basic tomato and mozzarella or Caesar variety. Pastas can be assembled with sauces and the likes of prosciutto, littlenecks, and grilled eggplant at the diners request. But youre better off ordering from the menu where full-flavored roasts and creamy pasta dishes are of the crowd-pleaser variety. From what we can tell, thats the Providence way.
