THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Les Deux Gros Restaurant Review:
An eating event of unique design and purpose. There is no attempt here to overwhelm or get lofty. Midwest sensibility meets haute French head on, and the result is fine dining in every sense. The two dining rooms are beautifully appointed with plush carpeting and walls wrapped in rich woods. Dinnerware is by Villeroy & Boch. Tables are covered with crisp white cloths. Quiet comfort reigns. Service is impeccable. A four-course prix-fixe dinner at $70 is delightful, but can be amended to six courses and paired with wine flights for considerably more. Try the magnificent filet of salmon en croute or richly satisfying roast medallion of veal with caramelized sweetbreads. Desserts are equally sensational; trio of chocolate (one hot, two not) won our hearts. The wine list is in total sync with the menu offerings, but unless you are a wine expert, go with the recommendations of Tom Lachowicz, maître d'-partner. The $35 prix-fixe lunch is truly a bargain. There is plenty of panache but hardly an ounce of pretense, and that translates to total enjoyment.
