: LuLou's Restaurant anchored the middle of Reno before it became the bustling, trendy neighborhood now known as Midtown. Under chef Troy Cannan, the place has been one of the Biggest Little City's best fine dining experiences for the last 15 years. The interior is quite the opposite in tone from the bright orange of the building's exterior --- a soft glow in a chic lounge and a low lit dining area with abstract art that covers brick walls. The menu's only staple is the spicy Thai soup, which has stayed due to customer demand. The coconut milk base comes full of chicken and vegetables, red curry and a lot of spice. Entrées and salads change with the seasons and range from an aged rib-eye from Montreal and white fish from North Carolina to a spaghetti dish with Maine lobster. Try the New York steak strip served with finely layered au gratin potatoes. Fans of wild game can opt for quail, venison or boar, among other choices. Few guests have room for dessert, but we recommend the salted caramel ice cream atop a warm brownie. |
