: Manuel's uptown sister location is visibly more colorful than the original downtown digs, but serves the same revved-up food from Mexico's heartland. The patio is a grand place to enjoy a leisurely afternoon or evening meal. We like to settle in with a mango margarita under the massive oak tree, surrounded by hanging bougainvillea and gushing fountains. With an open kitchen and walls washed in brilliant magenta and sunny yellow, the interior is also dramatic. Wherever you sit, don't miss the rich, dark pollo en mole, lovingly prepared with 21 ingredients, or one of the enchilada options (our favorite is the enchiladas de jaiba filled with lump blue crab). Chile rellenos en nogada, topped with walnut cream-brandy sauce, are justly famous. Less adventurous diners will enjoy the fajitas and homemade salsas. Dining on shared appetizers is also an excellent idea, with options like Baja taquitos made with lightly fried bay scallops, chile con queso with homemade venison chorizo, or a range of gussied up nachos. Expect a quality, vast tequila selection. |
