Martorano's Restaurant Review:
Martorano’s is an Italian restaurant with Philadelphia attitude --- the ’tude from chef Steve Martorano, a Philly native who has a distinctive take on cooking and restaurateuring. Think big, bold flavors, loud music on a state-of-the-art sound system, and his favorite Italian-American movies playing on high-def screens that dominate the décor. Start with the “Famous Meatball & Salad” and move on to rigatoni and Sunday gravy, rich and hearty with chunks of pork and an oversize scoop of ricotta, or try the “Eggplant Stacked,” breaded slices piled with homemade mozzarella, marinated tomatoes, arugula and slices of D.O.C. Parmigiano-Reggiano. The wine list has some nice Italian selections to match the fare. Desserts are suitably big, sweet and showy. A word to the wise: Don’t even ask for substitutions.
