Marty's Cafe Restaurant Review:

Charismatic chef Marty Carlton opened this casual spot after years working in Los Angeles (L'Orangerie, among others) and the East Coast (Seascapes in Kennebunkport, Maine). The cafe is housed in a building that once served as a loading dock and freight station for the Southern Pacific Railroad. The walls of the homey dining room are decorated with historic Truckee photos that can be purchased. Enjoy a meal at the wooden tables and chairs or have some sandwiches packed up to take on a hike or to the slopes. Breakfast is quick-service style and there are pastries available on the weekends. The "Skier's Bagel" egg and cheese sandwich can be loaded up with bacon, tomato, avocado and other toppings. Israeli couscous is a generous portion of coconut milk-soaked grains and sweet dried fruit with nuts. Other comfort food offerings include burgers, char-dogs and hoagies on Truckee Sourdough Company bread, as well as specials. Sides include potato salad, macaroni salad, mixed greens or kettle chips. Bring a friend (or two) and you stand a chance of polishing off the hefty 50/50 pastrami and corned beef sandwich with Swiss cheese, Thousand Island dressing and coleslaw.
