Meehan's Public House Restaurant Review

: While not exactly out of the Irish pub playbook, Meehan's serves dishes that represent good interpretations of authentic fare. We recommend the "Chip Shop Curry," which tops fried potatoes with a smooth curry sauce. Like most of the appetizers, it’s a plate to share and warms the heart on a cold day. Colcannon fritters are also well done, although we thought they should be made traditionally with cabbage and not kale. "Devils on Horseback" presents bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese; Guinness-braised lamb stew beats any we had in Ireland; and we have high regard for the shepherd's pie, prepared with lamb instead of beef. Consider, too, the soda bread as well as bangers and mash. For dessert, hold out for the Jameson Irish Whiskey bread pudding. Traditional Irish breakfast includes black-and-white pudding, a sure test of authenticity. Expect a raft of draft and bottled beers and a few fair wines, but target instead the Irish and other whiskey list. Other locations.
