The stately, sedate Connaught hotel underwent a major change when Gordon Ramsay took over the restaurants and put his protégée, young chef Angela Hartnett, in charge. Both the larger oak-panelled Menu and smaller more intimate The Grill were renovated with a refreshing lighter touch from London's favorite designer, Nina Campbell, though they serve the same menu. The chef has spread her net far wider than the classic French of the former regime, with gutsy Italian flavors taking center stage, though you can still get some old favorites in The Grill Room. Try onion veloute with frogs' legs and salsa verde, rich rabbit ragout with roast potato, pecorino and pasta, marinated tuna char-grilled with oven-roasted fennel, herb and caper vinaigrette; and chocolate and praline semifreddo. For a real treat, book the ten-seat Chef's Table and watch the action.
