Arepas Cafe Restaurant Review:

Queens has its share of interesting ethnic restaurants, and Arepas Café continues the trend in multi-national Astoria. In two small rooms, with a friendly and helpful staff, the restaurant serves an array of small plates and main courses, all at miniscule prices. Start with a selection of mini arepas, a flatbread round made of corn and topped with a dollop of queso blanco; or a plate of mini empanadas. Don’t miss Venezuela’s national dish, pabellon criollo, a platter of shredded beef paired with black beans and fried sweet plantains. Variations on these items can be made with baby shark, roast pork, chicken and stewed chicken. You’ll want to leave room for a torta tres leche or the Venezuelan flan known as quesillo. Wash it all down with chicha, a thick horchata-like drink made from rice with cinnamon.
