The Blackbird Buvette Restaurant Review:

This self-styled “micro-club” has all the bells and whistles of a hipster hangout: poetry readings and trivia contests, karaoke sessions and art shows, DJs and free WiFi, a see-and-be-seen patio and a 2 a.m. closing time every night but Sunday. And then there’s the cheap grub; nearly the entire menu of sandwiches, salads and snacks is priced in the single digits---and your bucks even get you a modicum of bang: bottlecaps (fried jalapeño slices) are a greasy, guilty pleasure; the grilled cheese is tricked out with roasted garlic and tomatoes; and the burgers are cheeky, nestled in bagels, croissants or tortillas and topped with buffalo sauce, fried eggs, or (natch) green chile. From noon to 4 p.m. on the last Sunday of each month, the Blackbird hosts live music with an equally affordable, albeit basic, brunch. So what’s with the lone $40 whopper? Is that a typo? Nope---it’s the 666 Burger, piled with six patties, six slices of cheese, and six strips of bacon in an implicit challenge to all who wear skinny jeans.
