Coltivare Pizza & Garden Restaurant Review:

A neighborhood Italian spot from the guys behind Revival Market, Coltivare features a 3,000-square-foot garden where vegetables and fresh herbs are grown for the pastas and the pizzas that emerge straight from the wood-burning oven. Chef Ryan Pera runs the kitchen at this cozy little house in The Heights. It's only open for dinner and reservations are not accepted so you can expect a wait for one of the tables, inside or out on the air-cooled patio. The draws are the fresh, local ingredients, the Italian curated wine and liquor list, and the seasonal dishes that make up the ever-changing menu. Favorites include the pizzas, like one topped with slow-cooked duck, sweet potato and red onion; and the big salads that often contain what seems like the entire seasonal contents of the garden. Other offerings have included a simple dish of spaghetti tossed with black pepper, Parmigiano and olive oil; Revival pork roast with clams, sausage and polenta; and a wood-grilled chicken with pickled grapes. Save room for the polenta olive oil cake with citrus cream and thyme honey. Morgan Weber created and oversees the amaro- and bourbon-friendly craft cocktail menu.
