Donnie's Country Cookin' Restaurant Review:
Korean-born Donnie Kim founded these simple-fare Southern-food restaurants; he then sold some of them, but the new owners retain the original name. Each day features different specials, but the best may well be the baked chicken. Friday's draw is the lovely fresh fried fish (whiting) and coleslaw. Mac 'n' cheese has an exaggerated golden hue but somehow is tasty and comforting. Mashed potatoes are the real spuds. The three-item vegetable plate costs just over $4, and a meat-and-two about $5.50 including tax. Bread and a drink are included. Cobbler is the sole dessert at this location, typically peach. Breakfast is a meal deal. Dinner closes early, 8 p.m. weekdays and 7 p.m. Saturdays.
