Joe's Crab Shack is a down-home fun place, but one has to be in the mood for a lively, loud experience with decent food and haphazard service. The fare is loosely inspired by the cuisine of New Orleans; the mood --- more authentically --- by Mardi Gras. As the name suggests, crab rules with Dungeness, Alaskan snow and king crustaceans served barbecued, boiled, steamed, Chesapeake-style or infused with garlic. The signature dish arrives as crab in a silver bucket, which can be shared family-style. You can also get seafood enchiladas and stuffed shrimp, as well as rib-eye, smoked ribs and pan-fried chicken in a Cajun mushroom sauce. Corn on the cob and cheesy smashed potatoes round out the plates. The young servers are friendly and entertaining, and often dance.
