Le Chef Bistro Restaurant Review:

While many restaurateurs choose to jump on the bandwagon and pursue the latest food fads, Le Chef Bistro owner-chef Frank Lenihan keeps it simple. After all, there's a reason his Southampton restaurant has been going strong for 30 years. Le Chef is famous for its $35 three-course prix-fixe menu. The house-made pâté appetizer accompanied by cornichons is one of the standout offerings, and the soups, which change according to the season, are generally quite good. Opt for one of the straightforward dishes for a main course, such as local fresh fish with lemon and capers or sautéed chicken medallions with roasted potatoes and vegetables. Dessert includes the namesake cheesecake with strawberry sauce. An à la carte menu proposes more choices with European influence (risotto, salmon and lobster gnocchi), but also more French touches like mussels marinière, French onion soup and escargots. The wine list is short but varied and favors French bottles. A cozy and familiar atmosphere and basic décor complement the food, and service in unobtrusive. The dining room can get crowded and a bit noisy in the high season, given the smallish space.
