Monument Lane Restaurant Review:

Monument Lane takes its name from the erstwhile eighteenth-century thoroughfare that cut through the neighborhood (then more countryside than city). It’s now called Greenwich Avenue. The kitchen turns out straight-up inspired American fare and it’s hard to go wrong with any of the dishes. Start with the fried soft shell crab that achieves a gooeyness in the middle that is deeply satisfying. Beef tartare, mixed right at the table and served with thick country bread, is also a fine way to launch the meal. Entrées are similarly winning: walleye pike packs a flavorful punch with chunks of chorizo and lobster competing for attention on the plate. Cornish hen is a standout, first seared over the tips of pine needles and then roasted, resulting is a very tasty bird. The wine list is all American with some affordable bottles in the $40 range.
