Painters’ Restaurant occupies a large space located outside the village of Bellport. The name comes from its collaboration with the artists whose work lines the walls. Tables are covered in paper and crayons are provided, and frequent theme nights like open mic allow even more artistic participation. Food-wise, there are “grazing” options like guacamole ground in a traditional molcajete, Thai steak sticks with a spicy peanut sauce, three-bean nachos, or a lobster and shrimp baked potato topped with cheese and lobster sauce. For larger dishes, meal salads like grilled watermelon with quinoa, or pecan goat cheese with mango and avocado are a sure bet. Mains ranging from chicken “toes” and fries to apple bacon grilled cheese and house burgers with a variety of toppings are also on offer. Opt for a specialty pizza or skillet roasted chicken, stir-fried “dragon bowl” or barbecue ribs. The presentation isn't always congruent with the restaurant’s dedication to aesthetics, but the taste compensates. Desserts include the deluxe "Brownie Bomber," apple cranberry crumb pie, and the banana caramel chocolate chimichanga with its crisp tortilla showcasing the soft, warm filling. Though pricey, Painters’ provides an all-around quirky experience that can’t be found elsewhere in the area.
