Tapeo Restaurant Review:

The younger sibling of Dalí, this Back Bay spot is a reliable choice for tapas, paella and other Spanish fare. The outdoor patio is always packed in warm weather, but don't sweat the sunshine---Tapéo's interior is lovely too, all tiles and copper, dim lights and ristras (there's also a more sedate dining room upstairs from the tavern). The bulk of the menu doesn't change, so fans of classics like tortilla española and garlic shrimp or of signatures such as stuffed squid and veggie buñuelos are never disappointed (though the classic lobster and crabmeat ravioli has been gluey on select visits). Adventurers, however, will want to check out rotating specials inspired by the season. Though many patrons pair their nibbles with pitchers of sangría, the all-Spanish wine list is full of more interesting choices. Sometimes the whole experience is shot through with authenticity; sometimes you'll encounter typical Newbury Street 'tude, a matter ever-upward-creeping tabs makes worse. But an after-dinner shot of Licor 43 should sweeten such sour spots.
