Situated in a former historic hotel and pharmacy in the bustling Second Avenue area, Merchant’s is an interesting destination. Old receipts, letters and such line the walls, and portions of the old pharmacy and soda fountain were used to build the first-floor bar and grill. Upstairs the tone is substantially more foodie and more romantic, as the staff whisks about with starters like coconut chicken with mango mustard sauce and entrées like Asian ahi or lamb chops in balsamic vinegar reduction. Specials change a few times weekly. After dinner, stroll down to the river, people-watch on the sidewalk, or amble up to Seanachie, an Irish pub a block west.
