THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Mission Hills Cafe Restaurant Review:
Reserve well ahead, especially on weekends, because the fixed price menus---and fine cooking, needless to say---at Mission Hills Café are ill-kept secrets, and the crowds seem to grow exponentially with each passing year. The price of the entrée, usually $10 to $15, determines the price of a three-course meal that includes both starter and dessert (daily specials may be priced a bit higher). Open with a daily soup, such as tomato-basil or potato-leek, or with such tasty and substantial appetizers as pate with sweet-pungent relish or grilled eggplant stuffed with ricotta cheese and doused with marinara sauce. Entrées run from vegetarian pasta primavera to fettuccine in a tasty carbonara sauce, duck basted with citrus glaze, roasted lamb shank, and grilled salmon in a creamy wine sauce. And then there are desserts, among which the sublimely tart lemon crepe is the hands-down favorite with hundreds of Mission Hills Café regulars. Beer and wine only.
