THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Monsu Restaurant Review:

Peter McAndrews and Nathan Baynes of Paesano's and Modo Mio are behind Sicilian eatery Monsu in the Italian Market. With talented chef Damien Messina in the kitchen, this cash-only BYO generates plenty of buzz for its authentic, earthy flavors and down-home vibe. A few highlights of the mostly $20-and-under menu include the deep-fried slab of smoky scamorza (an Italian cows’ milk cheese) served with roasted red pepper and lemon honey, and tuna and pea stuffed rice balls. All the pastas are worth a second glance, with ingredients such as anchovy, shaved ricotta and capers emboldening the humble noodles with personality plus. Try the anchovy and garlic marinated goat. If you have room for dessert, anything with almonds hits a home run. The $40, four-course "turista" menu, which lets you choose any appetizer, pasta, entrée and dessert, is a good value.
