THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Newport's Restaurant Review:
Admittedly, it doesn't sound too promising: a seafood place in the tourist-heavy section of the West End, and in a former brewery to boot. But Newport's, open for more than two decades, has made a real commitment to quality. Though the menu is hardly adventurous, dishes are well executed and the seafood always fresh. Start off with the scallop and shrimp ceviche in a piquant lime marinade and follow with one of the selections off the mesquite-grilled section of the menu; of the sauces that accompany them, the basil beurre blanc is our favorite. The blackened Chilean sea bass is usually a winner; served with a crunchy Granny Smith apple slaw, it’s plump, juicy and the tart slaw is a nice foil to the richness of the fish.
